Reading is essential for success in school. It's also a wonderful source of enjoyment. One of the best ways to interest children in reading when they are older is to read to them every day when they are young. I believe in getting children interested in books from the time they can sit in my lap.
I encourage the children to look at books any time during the day. We also have a special story time together. Sometimes I choose a story to read to the children; at other times I let them pick their favorites.
I keep the children's books on a low bookshelf so the children can get a book easily any time they like. I keep the cloth and laminated cardboard books in a bin next to the bookshelf for the babies so they can get them when they crawl around.
I also visit the library regularly to check out new books, especially those pertaining to the current subjects we are learning about.
