Breadsticks
CACFP: 1 breadstick = 1 bread
Makes 6 servings
Ingredients:
Yeast - 1/2 teaspoon
Flour, whole-grain - 1/2 cup
Milk - 2 Tablespoons
Water - 2 teaspoons
Oil - 1 Tablespoon
Honey - 2 teaspoons
Cooking Spray
Margarine
Directions:
1. Mix yeast with half of the flour and set aside.
2. Heat milk, water, oil, and honey until warm, but not boiling.
3. Pour milk mixture into flour and yeast. Mix, then knead for three minutes.
4. Add remaining flour and mix with dough hook or by hand.
5. Allow dough to sit covered for 10 minutes.
6. Roll dough out on floured board to a thickness of 1/2".
7. Cut rolled dough into "sticks" six inches long.
8. Place on cookie sheet greased with cooking spray.
9. Cover with dry cloth and let rise 30 minutes.
10. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
11. Brush tops with melted butter or margarine, if desired, to help keep breadsticks moist.
