French Toast Sticks
CACFP: 3 sticks = 1 bread


Ingredients 6 servings 20 servings
Egg Whites, medium 1 2
Whole Eggs, medium 1 3
Milk ⅓ cup 1¼ cup
Cinnamon ½ teaspoon 1 teaspoon
Bread, thin sliced 6 20
Margarine    



  • 1. Separate eggs as indicated above and discard the yolk(s).
  • 2. Mix eggs, milk, and cinnamon in a blender or with a wire whip until thoroughly blended.
  • 3. Heat iron griddle over medium heat.
  • 4. Melt 1 Tablespoon margarine and coat griddle. Be sure to coat griddle with margarine each time you cook another batch of French Toast Sticks.
  • 5. Dip bread in egg mixture and place on hot griddle.
  • 6. Brown bread on both sides.
  • 7. Remove from griddle and cut each bread slice into three strips.
  • 8. Store on cookie sheet in warm oven until time to serve.

    Note: Instead of serving syrup with French Toast Sticks, let the children dip them into their applesauce. If you have time, put applesauce in a large pan and add vanilla extract (½ teaspoons for 6 servings and 1 Tablespoon for 20 servings). Sprinkle with cinnamon and dot with margarine. Warm applesauce while heating French Toast Sticks. Great on a cold day!
