Meet the Teacher

Ms. Julie
The reason I started and continue
to work from home - my children.

Hello, my name is Julie Glanton and I am the owner and director of The Nurturing Nest. I am a mother to 4 boys - Anthony, Zach, Brian and Josh. Growing up, my family was always caring for children in some way or another. Whether it was donating toys and clothes to the local Rescue Mission or volunteering as a Brownie Leader or a T-Ball Coach, my parents always made it clear that every child deserved to be cared for and more importantly - loved.

As a child I always helped my parents, but as I got older I started caring for children on my own. By the time I was 12, I was babysitting on a regular basis. Growing up on ARMY bases all over the world, there were always children around that needed to be cared for. It was nice having my own money, but I truly enjoyed my job. I have always known growing up that I wanted to teach children, but I didn't know in what capacity until I discovered Early Childhood Education.

While attending Daemen College, majoring in Special Education, I did my student teaching at the Cantalician Center for Learning. I had the opportunity to work under an outstanding teacher and role model. She taught me that a good teacher helps children learn about themselves (and the world around them) and helps children feel good about themselves and capable as learners. I wanted to be the one to teach them, but at the same time I also wanted to be a mom and stay at home with my own children. A friend introduced me to the world of family child care and it was then that I realized I had found the perfect combination. I could be a mother and a teacher at the same time.

I opened my child care business in December of 1990 when my first child was only 4 months old. Since then, I have become very involved with this profession. I attend regular workshops and trainings at Child Care Solutions and I am a member of several professional associations including the National Association for Family Child Care, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Family Child Care Association of New York State (former Secretary), the New York State Association for the Education of Young Children, and the Family Child Care Association of Onondaga County (former President).

I believe that children really are the future and I'm doing my part to ensure that all children receive quality child care. Anyone who knows me well can see how much I love working with children. As you get to know me, you will find that I am also a very ethical person with high moral standards. I get a thrill out of watching children grow and succeed. That is why I have decided to provide quality child care as my profession.
