July's Theme - Camping

Week 1 - Campsite Challenge
When introducing this month's experiences, children begin by sharing what they already know. Throughout the week, they explore camping items like backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and campfires through conversation, books and dramatic play. As they pack backpacks, set up a tent together and discuss campfire safety, children practice sorting and categorizing what belongs at a campsite and what does not. I can support this learning by asking questions like - What woud you pack? Where would you sleep?

Week 2 - In the Night
As children explore what happens at a campsite after dark, they learn about raccoons, bears, stars, the moon and flashlights. Through dramatic play, storytelling and hands-on light investigations, they discover nocturnal animals, constellations and shadows. These experiences build curiosity about the night sky while supporting observation, problem-solving and friendship skills.

 Week 3 - Happy Trails
As children explore trails and outdoor pathways, they discover what it means to hike, ride and observe along the way. Through hands-on experiences with maps, pinecones, mushrooms, hiking boots and bike trails, children build paths, investigate changes in nature and practice using positional and directional language. These experiences encourage curiosity, problem-solving and a growning connection to the natural world.

Week 4 - Down the River
This week invites children to explore outdoor adventures near a river. As they learn about canoes, fishing, bugs and rainbows, children build, create and investigate using natural materials. I can support curiosity by asking wonder questions, such as - What might you find in or around a river? How can you build a canoe? What would you pack for a fishing trip?
